These Tears Dry On Their Own

$200
My Artwork is of a young woman as a harlequin clown tearfully pulling down a mask to reveal her face. I wanted to draw in the viewer with its vibrant colours and sensuality to depict a contrasting, autobiographical look into my experiences as a young woman. Having experienced bullying, shame around sex, guilt and humiliation as a child and as a young woman I wanted to address my insecurities. I often felt I needed to put on a mask, be the entertainer and people please to hide my own inner wounds and avoid confrontation. The clown represents playfulness, humour and child like quality yet at the same time carelessness, humiliation and feelings of an outsider. I wanted to show the duality and complexity of being a female and wanting others to love and accept you.
